The next building to save could be one you know

Our ambition doesn’t stop here. We’re building a pipeline of heritage buildings to rescue across Richmondshire, developing a model we can repeat again and again - and, in time, share with others so that even more of the region’s heritage can be saved.

Do you know a historic building at risk? We’d love to hear about it. While we can’t take on every building, every suggestion helps us understand where the need is greatest.

Choosing the buildings we save

We can’t rescue everything - so we focus where we can make the biggest, most lasting difference. When we consider a project, we look at:

Heritage significance - is the building historically or architecturally important to Richmondshire, and would its loss matter?
At risk - is it genuinely under threat, whether through neglect, disrepair or an uncertain future?
Community benefit - can it become a space that serves and brings together the local community?
Viability & sustainability - can it be restored and run sustainably, with a realistic plan for its long-term future and funding?
Deliverability - can we secure it and deliver the project to a high conservation standard, on time and to budget, ideally with strong partners?

Every potential project is assessed against these criteria, with a commercial viability appraisal completed before we commit - so that the buildings we take on, we can truly sustain.
